I’m not even going to go into all of the benefits because I think that you’ve received all the convincing you need from your middle school health classes. However, just because you know that something is good for you, doesn’t mean it’s easy to do.
It’s so easy for me to just drink soda or coffee, because honestly water doesn’t really appeal that much to me unless I’m thirsty. Nevertheless, recently I have made it one of my goals to drink more water, especially as we are diving head first into the extremely hot summer months. Here are some ways to make drinking water seem more attractive and more attainable.
Set some goals.
The average adult should be drinking eight cups of water a day. I know. That’s seems like a lot, especially if you are only drinking one or two a day right now. But take heart! Start small and build up. Begin by keeping track how much water you drink on a normal day and then slowly attempt to increase your intake. For example, if you drink three cups of water a day, try to drink four the next day, then five, and so on.
Keep track of your hydration.
I downloaded an app on my phone called Waterlogged that helps me track how much water I drink everyday and helps keep me accountable. You can also buy or make your own bottle that can help you keep track of how much water you drink. Honestly, I think that it’s super fun and it makes me feel totally productive!
Make water your cutest accessory.
I find that I drink a lot more water when I can drink it out of a super cute cup. This one from Starbucks is perfect for summer. You are going to be far more likely to pay attention to your water intake if you have a cute cup to grab!
Bonus tip: Drinking from a straw can make your drink go away a lot quicker than just sipping it.
Throw some stuff in it.
If all else fails, add some fruit or mint and it will taste 100 times better. As of late, I have been obsessed with lemon water, but you can add whatever you think will taste best. Some good options are: strawberries, cucumber, mint, peach slices. You can get super creative with it!
Find some water alternatives.
If you still feel like you aren’t getting enough water or you just can’t stomach the thought of drinking eight cups a day, there are other ways that you can make sure that you stay hydrated. Vegetable such as watermelon, cucumber and spinach all have high water content. Milk and some juices also are comprised of mostly water. Of course, you should try to drink as much water as you can, but these are some good alternatives for when you just aren’t getting enough.
I have such a hard time getting myself to drink enough water. I’m honestly just never really that thirsty and when I am, I’d much rather drink lemonade or something. I have never heard of the Waterlogged app, but it seems like something that might be able to help me!! I’ve also heard of tracking the amount of water you drink in your planner. There are lots of places that sell “hydration” stickers to use in your planner where you can check off how many cups you’ve drank!!

I struggle to get enough water, but not because I’m drinking other things. I believe strongly in showing my kids how to make good decisions, so my daughters and I have an agreement to only drink soda if we’re all drinking soda. I never buy the stuff, but if we’re at a friend’s place, we usually pass too. I think we drink non-water perhaps once a month or less.
One thing that helps me is to always have a bottle or cup of water in front of me. If I refill as soon as I empty my water container, it keeps me moving forward. Also, what I feel as hunger is often really thirst, so I take a few sips of water before grabbing a snack.

When I needed to drink a lot of water during my pregnancy I downloaded an app that would notify me when I needed to drink water. It made it a lot easier to remember!

Great advice – I definitely need to drink more water on a daily basis, especially in this hot weather. It’s so baking commuting on the tube, i need to remember to take a bottle with me. Thanks so much for linking up with #TwinklyTuesday

I always have the problem where some days I remember to drink all of the water I need and some days I just completely forget. I think I’m going to try using waterlogged though and see if it helps!
