Even if you love your job, work can still be a little dull, especially if you're stuck at a desk all day. Luckily, there are some things that you can do to perk up your day!

This summer, I am working my first full-time job as a receptionist. Although I will be returning to my role as a full-time college student in the fall, it has actually been quite fun to get a glimpse into the “grown-up” world that is in my near future. However, I am experiencing some of the not-so-fun parts of working at a desk…like leg cramps and fatigue (#firstworldproblems).

Even if you love your job, work can still be a little dull, especially if you’re stuck at a desk all day. Luckily, there are some things that you can do to perk up your day!

Reward yourself with breaks…and snacks.

Although it sounds strange to those who have never experienced it, sitting at a desk all day can actually be terribly draining. After a particularly productive amount of time, I like to reward myself with a good walking-around sesh. I usually take a stroll around the office, take a bathroom break and maybe hit up the vending machine for a little pick-me-up in candy form.

Make your space your own.

Even if you love your job, work can still be a little dull, especially if you're stuck at a desk all day. Luckily, there are some things that you can do to perk up your day!

If you are able, decorate your cubicle, your desk, your 12 inches of desk space that you share. Fill the space with picture of things that you love, like family, friends, encouraging quotes or pictures of pretty things.

Get to know those around you.

Nothing is worse than working in an office where no one talks to each other. Talk to your coworkers on a regular basis, ESPECIALLY if you are working in close quarters to them. They don’t have to be your new BFF, but being able to have light-hearted conversations at work can sometimes make the day go by quicker, while having a few laughs along the way.

Wear something comfortable.

Unfortunately, most jobs won’t allow you to wear yoga pants and a baggy sweater to work everyday, although that would be the ultimate dream. However, there are ways to dress professionally but still be comfortable. Maxi skirts and dresses have become my best friend, as they are stretchy (perfect for when you take one too many trips to the vending machine) and flowy, which allows for freer movement.

What do you do to break up the monotony of your work day?

  1. I love Spotify or the radio on line – I plug in my earphones and the pace of the music will help with the pace of my work! I definitely use most of your tips too 🙂 Welcome to #PoCoLo and thank you for linking. Hope to see you again.

  2. I get up from my desk regularly to go and get a drink from the kitchen. Plus although I have a printer at my desk, I often send stuff to the main one further away so I can stretch my legs. I totally agree with you that is important to talk with your colleagues 🙂
